Bento Snacks for FB and SB

I found this bento box during one of my SM Taytay trips. I've been looking at bento lunch ideas in http://pinterest.com/ and I found this board from http://pinterest.com/rachellacy/. She has very nice pins. I'm trying to find inspirations for healthier snacks and meals so I could slowly make it our lifestyle. It's a lot of work, but Alex and Zach are very much worth it. So here's my first two bentos. Not really very healthy, but at least they are real food, I think. Hahaha :)

This is Zach's bento yesterday. Toasted Nachos with queso de bola with pimiento dip (I melted the cheese myself), dried pineapple chunks and raisins and some skyflakes.

And this is Alex's bento, only she chose Oreo's instead of skyflakes.

Hopefully, we can make it more colorful with fresh fruits and veggies next time. For now, I'm taking baby steps. :)

Flapper ala DDD (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives)

At the end of Monday, I told Arnold I can not do the 2-week Herbalife diet. And as usual, he's ever so supportive, aggreeing that I just cut-off the rice. I've started reading two diet philosophies, the Super-Charged Southbeach Diet (which I downloaded from www.englishtips.org) and the DASH diet. I think I downloaded it too, from where I forgot.

But, when Papabols woke me up today (Tuesday) at 4am (Alex asked him to wake me up) to make breakfast for Alex. As requested, I made the flapper inspired by the show on foodnetwork, DDD. And unfortunately, I could not resist trying it. And so did Papabols, hehehe. The difference was, I did not the "brie" cheese, so I settled for the cream cheese I so happened to have, which worked well as it balanced out the sweetness of the apple in "liquidy" caramel syrup which was made by caramelizing brown sugar with honey, a pinch of cinammon and apples. It's supposed to be wedges, but since Alex had braces, I cut it into smaller pieces. And here it is :-)

Papabols said it's yummy! Sira ang diet, so he made up for it by biking indoors as it was raining this morning :) I could do with some of his discipline! Haaay!!!!

Monday Lunch

Alex is home for the day. It's home study day. And it's not "Just Another Manic Monday" for me.
Zach is healed with God's grace and all your prayers, my dear sisters. He has no fever anymore and had 2 bottles of milk before breakfast. Although we slept late. I was planning on making "flapper" for breakfast since Alex has no school today. It's a yeast pancake I saw on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" show on FoodNetwork. As usual, eventhough I got up at 6:30 am, since she's used to getting up early, she already had breakfast. Carbonara and garlic gardenia toast. She said to please make it tomorrow na lang.

It's my first day of my 2-week Herbalife diet. So no solid breakfast for me. Lunch is a different matter however. Pan-grilled porkchops, "kani" salad without the kani, hehehe. And since we had some of the seasonings left, I mixed it with flour and made mojos. Alex was already enjoying helping me cook.

Alex and Zach, already waiting for me to start lunch.

Weekend Breakfast

After Arnold's 10k marathon, gotta make filling breakfast. And you can never go wrong with garlic rice (with crispy dulong topping), egg and longganisa from Suki Market. With tomatoes and cucumber on the side for Papabols, with additional achara for Alex. At least may veggie servings, o di ba. Yummm....That's what weekends are made of...

An Affair With Michael Miller

I went to Taytay yesterday to look for brown fabric for Daddy Art's recliner. The synthetic leather is peeling off. And of course, my first stop is my and A'nols favorite fabric shop. And what greets me at
the entrance? This fabric!

NORDIC HOLIDAY Partridge's Pear Tree Multi by Michael Miller Fabrics Christmas Panel, SALE

I searched the web and I found the picture above in this site:

The one from Michael Miller website is not so clear so I chose this photo to put in here. :)

Of course, I was able to find a nice brown fabric for the recliner. But not before I bought 4 yards of this beautiful fabric (a project jumped instantly [as in jumped, hahaha] in my mind and a couple of other designs I would use for my aprons project....Happiness!!!

Gotta go! Have another errand from papabols (hubby) :)

Attempts to Healthier Meals

This year, though it may not yet seem like it, I promise to at least try to make "healthier" meals for Arnold, Alex and Zach. Of course, for me too. So far, I've started cutting back on the "instants". Baked macaroni is served the good 'ol fashion way. Alex is so hooked with Nissin's instant carbonara, so I tried making it ahead of time so she can just microwave it herself. Same with the baked macaroni. And, more fruits anf juices. And I'm trying to wean myself from coke zero. Hehehe.... :)

So, here's Medyas, having breakfast. With japanese pear (yellow apple daw), pineapple juice, baked macaroni and toasted bread. With Disney Junior on the side. Harharhar...

A shot of our breakfast tray...notice my toast rack! Bought years ago from Dapitan

52 Weeks,52 Memory Verses, in 2013

Last year, during the latter part, I stumbled upon this challenge 52 Weeks/52 Verses and I think it is
a great idea... to learn new verses and to review memory verses I have already learned as a young christian. So this year, I am challenging myself, though I have to make up for the two weeks that have already passed. And maybe I can get FB (firstborn) and hubby (hmmm....nice rhyme) to join me in this journey.

Memory verse 1:
2 Corinthians 5:7 New Living Translation (NLT)
17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

Memory verse 2:
Matthew 5:3 New Living Translation (NLT)
3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

And for this week:
Memory verse 3:

Psalms 107: 8-9 New Living Translation (NLT)
8 Let them praise the Lord for his great love
and for the wonderful things he has done for them.
9 For he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.
